The Application Process

HOW DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS WORK?

We admit students who can excel with the Australian school curriculum; especially those who will enjoy the opportunities to develop themselves academically, physically and socially.

Our enrolment runs throughout the year with no application deadlines. However, we encourage you to apply as early as possible to secure a place for your child.

HOW LONG DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS TAKE?

A completed application takes about 5 working days, inclusive with the application fee and academic reports. However, an applicant with additional learning needs will might take longer.

Filling In Your Application

Complete the application form and include the relevant documents required. A checklist is provided with the form to help you with the compilation.

An application fee of RM1,300.00 should be paid on submission of the application. Payment can be made via cash, cheque or online transfer.

All payments in the form of cheque or bank draft should be addressed to ‘Australian International School Sdn Bhd’.

For overseas transfer, please include additional amount in view of foreign exchange and bank charges, which are paid by the sender.

Admissions assessment and interview

Upon receipt of your application, our Admissions office will be in touch to schedule an admissions assessment (if applicable) and interview.

Nursery, Preparation and Foundation students are exempted from assessment. However, completion and submission of the School’s Readiness Checklist and interview is mandatory.

For Year 1 and 2 students, a literacy test is required and performed in the presence of an Admissions officer.

For Year 3 and above, students must sit for an online test which consists of English and Mathematics. Students can undertake the test at our office or in your home country under appropriate supervision.

An admissions interview with the relevant head of school will be conducted upon completion of the assessment. During the interview, parents or legal guardians are required to be present. A Skype interview can be arranged for those not in Malaysia.

Application outcome

Parents will be informed of the outcome through telephone or email.

The possible outcomes are:

  • Successful application

    Applicants will receive an offer letter from the school. Confirmation on child’s placement, payment of the admission fee and any other fees payable is required by the stipulated date in the offer letter.

  • Successful application (Pending enrolment)

    Due to unavailable places, successful applicants will be placed on the waiting list.

  • The application is unsuccessful

    We will contact you to let you know the reasons and suggest other options where appropriate. An option of having a reassessment six months later will be given.

What Do I Do After Receiving The Offer Letter?

Upon the offer of enrolment, our Admissions Officer will send you an email with details on what to do next such as uniform purchase, student IDs, bussing, and much more. We will guide you and your family throughout the entire process to ensure a smooth start for your child.

An international focus
We celebrate diversity, and welcome admissions from all nationalities.
Availability of places
Admissions will be subjected to availability due to limited places based on year group
Academic level
Our assessment and interview, along with the supporting documents, will help us assess your child’s academic level prior to enrolment.
Australian & New Zealander Priority
As the most established Australian international school in Malaysia, Australian and New Zealander families are given priority placement.
Expatriate parents
Parents must show evidence of work permit approval or a relevant and valid visa granted by Malaysian Immigration.
Students from non-native English Speaking Background
Students from non-native English speaking backgrounds, who achieve literacy and numeracy test scores beneath 50%, may be admitted to the school but are required to undertake additional English Language support and this additional cost is to be borne by the parent.
Provisional enrolment
From time to time, students with significant academic, social or emotional needs will be admitted on a provisional basis. The conditions will be set out on the Letter of Offer, and will be monitored and reviewed regularly by Heads of School.
Advance applications & waiting lists

Application for places received in advance (e.g. 4-5 months ahead) will be placed on the waiting list until the school is able to determine the leavers and availability of places for the requested term.

To be placed on the waiting list, the School must receive a completed application form, application fee and all the required documents.

Where places are not available in the requested year group, applicants are placed on a waiting list. If an applicant fails to obtain a position during term for which he or she applied for, the application will be automatically transferred to the relevant waiting list for the following term and/or Academic Year Group, unless the application is withdrawn.
