Graeme Naftel, Head of Junior School
It was my pleasure to welcome returning students back on Wednesday as well as to welcome 25 new learners to the Junior School. This number is scheduled to rise to more than 30 over the next couple of weeks. Whilst I always enjoy the opportunity to complete a lot of work during non-term time, schools are all about children, and it has been lovely to speak with so many children who are genuinely happy to be back at school this week. Work has begun at pace and regular routines will be in place by Monday. By next week, all parents should have received a Semester 2 Curriculum Overview and an updated Class Timetable.
Please remind your children to bring their hats to school. Children who do not have a hat are required to play in the shade, which for many of our children is a poor option compared to playing on the fields, the play equipment and the Four Square courts.
Friday Sport / Assembly
Due to the afternoon heat and regular thunderstorms, many of the Friday afternoon sport sessions were disrupted during Semester 1. With some changes made to the school timetables for this semester, we have been able to reschedule Years 3 to 5 Sport sessions to Friday morning at 9.00am. Junior School students will have access to the pool, gymnasium and fields during this time and will be able to take advantage of the cooler conditions.
In order to accommodate this change, Junior School Assembly will now be held at 2.20pm each Friday Week A. The first assembly of the term ran this afternoon, and included three student musical performances, an excellent fitness session led by our Thorpe House Captains and a very interesting presentation from the Junior School Captains on the topic of Social Media. Please join us for our next assembly, scheduled for Friday 5 August.
Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports were published on the Engage Parent Portal at the end of last term. If, having read these reports, you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please make an appointment to meet with the appropriate teacher. Below we have included some additional information that may assist parents to interpret the report information.
Junior School Report
Achievement is reported using a five point scale, as mandated by Australian Federal Government regulations. It is anticipated that the majority of students will achieve Sound status by the end of the year. Information relating to student achievement in comparison to their peer group is available on request.
Each student’s Personal Profile and Learning Habits are assessed using the four point scale explained below.
