Welcome Back to a New Semester
Dr Deborah Priest
Welcome back to a new Semester. In particular we welcome new students, new families and a new Head of Mathematics, Mr Michael Lewthwaite, a new Mathematics Teacher, Mr Christopher Shortreed and a new temporary Music Teacher, Mrs Tracey Neismann, while we wait for our new Head of The Arts, Mrs Eryn Grady, who will commence at AISM in a few weeks. While we were sad to farewell colleagues and families at the end of the previous term, we are renewed by the freshness and new skills that are brought to us by new members of our community.
This Semester will be full and engaging, commencing with our International Day celebrations. As always we extend an invitation to families to join us at school to share in these festive and important occasions where we celebrate our unity in our diversity.
The Construction of the new Car Park commenced during the Vacation.
For parents who have been at the School for some years, you will know that the Management Team of the School has been working hard to overcome a range of obstacles that have continually delayed the construction of the new AISM car park. I am excited to share with you that work has now commenced and you will see that the old pump house has now been cleared from the gravel car park. Construction has now progressed to the removal of some fence panelling to create the new entrance to the car park that will be directly off Jalan Anggerik. The completed car park will have more than twice the parking capacity of the current gravel car park.
We will be phasing the work so as to minimise the disruption to parents so please keep reading the newsletter for updates. If the weather is kind, we will commence 2017 with a fully completed car park. I have included a simple sketch below of the new car park showing where the old pump house was and what the car and motor bike park spaces will look like.
Student Survey Results
At the end of Semester 1 we shared with you the results from the 2016 Parent Satisfaction Survey. I am now delighted to share with you the feedback from our students. Our overall student satisfaction has increased from 77% in 2015 to 83% in 2016. As always, we will use the feedback provided by our students, in conjunction with the parent feedback, to continue to seek improvements across all Departments at the School with the primary objective of improved outcomes for all students.
