Assessment, Middle & Senior Schools
How do I know how my child is progressing?
Assessment is designed so that students understand their progress towards their outcomes. To enable this, our assessment is ongoing. Students complete a variety of assessments which gauge their understanding of the variety of skills and knowledge taught throughout the year. For students to gain a true representation of their understanding, frequent assessment is critical, along with feedback from their teachers.
Our assessment tasks across the Middle and Senior Schools provide us with academic achievement data for the learning objectives (known as outcomes) of each subject. We assess students' achievement through a variety of activities, including assignments, research tasks, oral presentations, group work and examinations.
Our school reports let you know how your child is progressing through the outcomes for each subject and describe strengths and weaknesses. Each semester, our teachers compile a semester report which includes these details. In addition to this, we provide a progress report in Term One and Term Three.
Good communication with your child’s class teacher is essential. We encourage families to talk to the teacher if there are any concerns or questions, rather than waiting for parent-teacher interviews.
However, our school conducts parent-teacher conferences twice each year to discuss students' progress, any concerns or questions about their progress at school, and to help our teachers understand more about each students.
Internationals Schools’ Assessment testing
Each October, all of our students from Year 6 to Year 10 complete the ISA (International Schools’ Assessment) in mathematics, reading and writing. This means we can compare our students’ performance with other top international schools across the world with similar characteristics. The test is also used diagnostically, to identify and address any areas of comparative weakness.
Each student receives an individual mark and ranking, so you know how they, and the school, are performing against similar international schools.
The ISA is based on the internationally endorsed reading, mathematical literacy and scientific literacy frameworks of the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
