Australian International School Parents Association

 AISM-PA - Kuala Lumpur

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

The Australian International School Malaysia Parents Association (AISM-PA) aims to represent and unite parents and families of AISM. The objective and goal of the Association is to provide an avenue of communication between the school and home in an open and informative way. We will generate and maintain a school spirit through social and school activities with the emphasis on having fun and enjoying your years at AISM.

We as an Association in support of the school, coordinate many activities within the school through our sub committees, which perform a very active and important role within the community. The sub committees are Social, Transport and Tuck shop.  Through these committees we organize various events; including family, social, special event days and some fundraising which in turn enable us to make purchases that benefit all students.

To achieve all these goals we require support from the parents. This is the key factor in the success of the ASIM PA.  I encourage you to participate where you can in the various activities organized, and when you are able to assist us in the events organized. Every person’s contribution makes a difference! It is our vision to have social events that benefit the whole family whether it is through fun and enjoyment or satisfaction in seeing a plan realized. The combination of these two aspects will always result in benefits to the AISM students.

As the newly appointed President along with the Executive Committee of 2006 we hope to provide a platform for you to meet other people, to welcome new families to our community and Malaysia and help them “find their feet”.  We encourage you to attend our parent forum meetings where topics are discussed and issues are raised that concern all our students ranging from uniform, canteen, transport and bussing concerns to the planning and organization of events that we celebrate. One of the advantages of an International school is that we have many cultures and beliefs that enable us and our children to have a global prospective on life.

As a relatively young school that is enjoying continued growth and development as each year goes by, it is our belief the a strong and active Parent body will assist in  the growth and change of the school whilst still keeping our school community and spirit as one of the most appealing aspects of AISM life.

NEWSLETTER - Friday, March 02, 2007

AISM PARENTS ASSOCIATION NEWS

Hello and welcome

It has been a busy start to the year and we have had lots to get through! As we now have so much happening in the Parents Association we will be distributing a fortnightly newsletter on Friday of each week A

 SUB COMMITTEE MEETINGS

SPORTS

On Tuesday March 6th we will hold our first Sports Committee meeting. Ros Stanford, our vice president, will chair the meeting with Mr. Rod Seib, our new PDHPE teacher, being the school representative. The meeting will firstly outline the vision and role of the Sports Committee in AISM and what we hope to achieve from the Parent Association and the school. We will also elect our committee members for this committee at this meeting. It is intended that we have 4 members sitting on the committee as well as Rod and a member of the Parent Association Executive committee.

The meeting will take place from 11.15am. We have booked room G5 (next to auditorium). Please let us know if you are able to attend via email at email link. This is a popular and important committee that we know will have a lot of support. As we have stated, you are welcome to come along to be part of the meeting and it is not expected of anyone to do more than they can.

 EVENTS

This meeting will be held on Thursday morning March 8th from 9.00am. We will conduct this meeting in Room G5 (next to Auditorium).

The events committee will have a wide scope and we will need to appoint a committee ASAP to start coordinating and organising our events for the year.

This committee will cover many areas:

·       Bake stalls

·       Trivia Night

·       Social activities

·       Student focus days (pie / pizza days etc)

·       Fund raising activities

·       International Day

This is a very important committee with a big involvement in school activities. With a strong committee and the continuing support from our Parent Community, this will become one of the main focus areas of our Association this year. Please come along and be involved in whatever way you can.

Email email  via link to register your interest.

TRANSPORT

The transport committee is a very important committee within the Association. We play an active role in maintaining and supporting our transportation services in the school. The committee works closely with Mr. Peter Cheong our bus operator, as well as administration staff. Mr. Wagner represents the school management at these meetings and is an active supporter of the Transport committee.

We require a committee of at least 3 to continue on with this important work. Much progress has been made in 2006 and Nicole Thomas has made some great recommendations and implemented systems that are making this work. Nicole has resigned from this committee recently and we do thank her for her tremendous efforts. Her dedication and commitment to the student safety at AISM was unwavering and continual. I am sure Nicole will do an excellent handover of this chair and would support you as best she can.  If you have any queries or would like to register your interest please contact transport committee on the email link below

ACCESS ROAD

We are continuing to encounter problems on the access road with people not following the safety and security procedures outlined by the school management and parent association.

The car park areas have now been upgraded to facilitate the increasing use of these areas; however, several people in our school community still do not follow procedures.

On the top car park, we ENTER at the first graveled roadway and park the vehicle. We then EXIT the graveled roadway closest to the school gate.

AT NO TIME SHOULD ANY VEHICLE PARK FORWARD OF THE GRAVELED AREAS. THERE IS TO BE NO DROPPING OFF ON THE ROAD. ALL VEHICLES USING THIS ROAD MUST PARK THE VEHICLE AND WALK THEIR CHILDREN INTO THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. REVERSING YOUR VEHICLE ON THE ACCESS ROAD IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. IF YOU WISH TO DROP YOUR CHILDREN PLEASE USE THE DROP OFF BAY ON THE MAIN ROAD AT THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL.

THE GUARDS ARE THERE TO PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN AND ENFORCE THESE PROCEDURES. PLEASE RESPECT THEM AND UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS THEIR ROLE AT AISM.

VEHICLE DETAILS WILL BE RECORDED OF CARS WHO CONTINUE TO IGNORE THESE PROCEDURES.

THE 2007 UPDATED RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF WILL BE DISTRIBUTED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
