We have been learning to use Google Classroom to help us stay connected both at home and at school, along with using it as a place to store and access great resources, upload completed tasks and share our learning.

And of course, we have been using our iPads as a research tool and to assist us to answer questions we have been wondering about.

We have had a busy few weeks getting to know our new iPads as part of the introduction of BYOD in Year 5 this year. So far we have used Popplet and Padlet to assist us in mapping and sharing our ideas during Inquiry lessons.

Visible Learning in Year 5

One of the characteristics of an ‘Assessment Capable Visible Learner’ is that they can have discussions about their learning. Last week, 5G experimented with completing a non-verbal learning conversation using the TextaTalk thinking routine. Students discussed (on paper) four key questions that required them to think about what constitutes an effective learning environment.

Another characteristic of the Visible Learner is that they can track their learning journey, growth and development. 5W have been using the Reading Tree to assist them to track their reading progress in a clear and visible way.
