Our new Information Resource Centre (IRC) is nearing completion. It is likely to be completed by June. This has been an amazing transformation of floor space to create a centre for research, innovation and ideas creation. The IRC combines conventional features of a traditional library with modern spaces and technology where students can collaborate on the creation of digital projects. The IRC is designed to accommodate up to six class groups at any one time.
Last week, I finalised a decision with my senior management to support the provision of a Senior Student Study Centre on the top floor of the new building. Next week, we will engage our interior design architect to design the space as an adult-style, mini-campus where our Year 11 and 12 students will be based for many of their classes. Our vision is to create a small, specialized, learning community that recognises the particular needs of young adults and focussed on assisting students to achieve at the highest level.
Our Senior School has a strong results orientated culture that we believe can be further enhanced through the creation of the purpose-designed, learning space.
Delays with the finalisation of the transfer of the land adjacent to the field will mean that realistically we won’t be able to occupy the new building until late this year, so we are now planning for an opening in January, 2013. At that time Prep to Year 4 classes with Performing Arts for the entire school on level 3 will be conducted in the new building.
Next week, we will commence the design work to refurbish the existing curriculum block. We are creating spaces for 21st century learners. I am constantly amazed how well this project has progressed. This is in part due to the depth of experience and vision of our parent company, Taylor’s Education Group, but most importantly due to the dedication of staff who have contributed their expertise to this project.
