Students
at AISM come from countries
around the world. To ensure
that all students are able to
gain full benefit from their
lessons, an ESL support programme
has been introduced, which allows
students from a non-English
speaking background to improve
their English skills in a small
group learning situation, and
also have help and support during
regular lessons with their classmates.
Apart
from classroom learning, great
emphasis is placed on the learning
that comes with interaction
during extra-curricular activities
after school on two afternoons
per week. While the programme
varies from one Semester to
the other, students can choose
from a wide range of indoor
and outdoor activities which
may include Soccer, Swimming,
Touch Football, Karate, Chess,
Maskmaking, Video making, Drama
or preparation of the school
Yearbook. In addition we prepare
teams to participate in Interschool
meets in a variety of sports,
as well as the major Athletics
and Swimming Meets held between
the various International Schools
in Kuala Lumpur.
AISM
students are also encouraged
to participate in community
programmes. Our Rakan Muda (Duke
of Edinburgh Scheme) and Student
Representative Committee actively
raise money for local charities
throughout the year in various,
creative ways, and the Environment
Club meets regularly to discuss
environmental issues and have
arranged the Recycling Programme.
Community
spirit is further developed
through the House system, named
after four young Australian
Athletes Thorpe, Rafter,
Freeman and Sauvage. The three
main Interhouse events keenly
fought every year are the Annual
Cross Country Race, Athletics
Carnival, and the Swimming Gala.
