Welcome
Our learning environment
Students at AISM come from countries around the world. To ensure that all students are able to gain full benefit from their lessons, an ESL support programme has been introduced, which allows students from a non-English speaking background to improve their English skills in a small group learning situation, and also have help and support during regular lessons with their classmates.
Apart from classroom learning, great emphasis is placed on the learning that comes with interaction during extra-curricular activities after school on two afternoons per week. While the programme varies from one Semester to the other, students can choose from a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities which may include Soccer, Swimming, Touch Football, Karate, Chess, Maskmaking, Video making, Drama or preparation of the school Yearbook. In addition we prepare teams to participate in Interschool meets in a variety of sports, as well as the major Athletics and Swimming Meets held between the various International Schools in Kuala Lumpur.
AISM students are also encouraged to participate in community programmes. Our Rakan Muda (Duke of Edinburgh Scheme) and Student Representative Committee actively raise money for local charities throughout the year in various, creative ways, and the Environment Club meets regularly to discuss environmental issues and have arranged the Recycling
Programme.
Community spirit is further developed through the House system, named after four young Australian Athletes —Thorpe, Rafter, Freeman and Sauvage. The three main Interhouse events keenly fought every year are the Annual Cross Country Race, Athletics Carnival, and the Swimming Gala.
The Academic Program
AISM is the first and only International school in Malaysia with a 100% Australian Primary and Secondary curriculum. Our students, from Preparation (age 3) to Year 12 (age 18), have the advantage of accessing a flexible style of learning which encourages the development of investigative techniques and the application of skills. The majority of staff are highly experienced and well qualified Australian teachers who create the culture and standards of the learning environment.
The school is recognised by the NSW Board of Studies and offers a rigorous academic program leading to the School Certificate (SC) at Year 10 and the Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Year 12 matriculation, which meets the entry standards for some of the most prestigious universities around the world. The school follows the Australian school calendar making it easy for transfers to and from any school in Australia. The school day begins at 8:50am and ends at 3:20pm for Infants and 3:30pm for Primary and Secondary.
Our Mission
The aim of the Australian International School Malaysia is to provide a first rate education for boys and girls from families who value an Australian educational experience in a global context.
Our international community is valued and supported for its diversity, culture and strength. The parent body and class parent system provide active support for the teaching and learning program and direction for future growth. We look forward to welcoming you to AISM.
