‘Jamuan Teh
Malaysia’ |
14th
August |
|
The Australian
International School
Malaysia is proud to
host one of the
inaugural ‘Jamuan Teh
Malaysia’ events in
support of Cancer
Welfare and Research in
Malaysia. The event is
modelled on Australia’s
Biggest Morning Tea,
one
of The Australian
Cancer Council’s
foremost fundraising
events and the largest,
most successful event of
its kind in Australia.
Between 13th & 16th
August, hosts invite
people along to a venue
(at work, school, home
or in a club) and ask
people to leave a
donation. The AISM
Jamuan Teh raised over
RM6000 for Cancer
Welfare and Research.

The Middle & Senior School
Swimming Gala |
7th August |
|
|
Everyone has the chance
to take part, whether
members of the
Barracudas training team
or social swimmers. If
you can only manage 25
metres, that's fine, you
can earn points for your
house. Everyone had a
great day, except that
the star event - Staff
vs Parents vs Students
relay had to be
cancelled because the
heavens opened.

Visitors in school |
|
|
On Friday 19th June we welcomed
Datuk Michelle Yeoh, the well
known Malaysian actress recently
appointed UN Road Safety
Ambassador. She joined us for
the launch of our Road Safety
campaign and spoke briefly on
Road safety to our school
Assembly. She was accompanied by
Datuk Jean Todt, well known in
F1 Racing circles. |
 |
 |
On Monday 22nd June, we were
visited by one of our early
teaching couples, Andrew and Cat
Burnell who taught in AISM in
2001 on our old campus. Their
daughter Lucy, who was born that
year and their son Tom joined
them. They were taken for a walk
around by our school captain
Gaia and Vice Captain Yasmin and
met up with Peter Syme, teacher

early students. |

Anzac Day |
|
25th April |
_small.JPG) |
Dawn, 25th April – Following the
tradition long observed in
Australia and New Zealand,
Aussies and Kiwis gathered
around the world to commemorate
the disastrous landing of the
ANZAC troops at Gallipoli Cove
at dawn on that day in 1915.
This year, about 90 students and
staff were at the Cheras
Christian Cemetery well before
dawn to once again mark the
tradition. Five of our students
acted as wreath bearers in a
ceremony which is growing in
importance in both countries. A
traditional ‘Gunfire Breakfast’
was held at the residence of the
New Zealand High Commissioner,
with sausages and eggs on the
menu, and a tot of rum for the
adults so inclined.

The day
was also marked with a special
assembly at AISM.
Our special guest, Lieutenant
Colonel Murray W. Heron
explained the meaning and
relevance of
'ANZAC'.
_small.JPG) |
"Throughout this region, many
thousands of Australians and New
Zealanders are buried alongside
their mates from countries such
as Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal,
India, England and the
Netherlands. This holds
significant value in regards to
the three things that I have
talked about. These men and
women did not die in vain. They
died fighting for what they
believed was right and the
freedom which we celebrate
today. The ANZAC story tells us
that we must always be loyal to
our country and to our friends,
no matter what the cost and to
do everything as well as we
possibly can."
