ICAS Science Competition
Graeme Naftel, Head of Junior School
Congratulations to Zo Ee Teh from 3M, who received a gold medal in this year’s ICAS Science Competition. ICAS Competitions are extremely challenging and to receive her gold medal, Zo Ee received the top score in the Asia Pacific region. This is a remarkable achievement by a very talented young learner.
100 Days of Foundation Celebration
On Friday 29 July, the Foundation students celebrated their first BIG milestone at school… 100 days!!! Throughout the week, the learners participated in lots of fun and exciting activities that involved 100, like counting to 100 by 1s, 5s and 10s, doing a combination of exercises in the playground that added up to 100, making fabulous pieces of art that predicted what they would look like at the ripe old age of 100, and writing a list of 100 words. The parents also joined in on the celebrations as they watched the children perform some fabulous songs, dances and be presented with certificates from Miss Tupai and Ms Barker. The students were very happy to end their week of celebrations by indulging in a feast of 100 donuts as an extra special treat!
This term Years 3 to 5 are taking part in Friday Morning Sport during Lesson 1 (9:00 - 9:50am). This has replaced Friday Afternoon Sport, which ran during Lesson 6 (2:20 - 3:10pm) in Terms 1 and 2. The change in the timetable has allowed our students to be able to use the field without any risk of cancellation due to afternoon lightning storms. The field is also significantly cooler in the morning, making the experience more enjoyable for our students and teachers.
This term, the students will learn the skills of four different activities; Oz Tag, Fitness Circuit Training, Basketball and Cricket. They will rotate through a different activity each week and will have the opportunity to play each sport / activity twice throughout the term. Please ensure that your child applies sunscreen before School on Friday and that they bring a full water bottle to school. They are required to wear their Sport Uniform, with House T-Shirt.
Stage 2 Music Showcase
On Friday 2 September, the Junior School will be presenting the Stage 2 Musial Showcase. The theme is 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll. Any students in Year 3 to 5 who wish to perform as individuals, should contact Mr Parry either in his office, or by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Spelling Bee will be held in Week 5, Friday 19 August in the Auditorium.
During Week 4, teachers from each class will be running the preliminary rounds and from here one student will be chosen, per class, to participate in the final in Week 5. Please note that this is a voluntary event and, as such, if a child does not wish to participate, they will not be obligated to do so. If your child is in the finals you will be notified, but all parents are welcome to attend.
