Into the Woods is based on the book by James Lapine, with music, songs and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, one of the world’s most renowned lyricist in musical theatre. The play script intertwines the plots of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales, exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. It takes everyone's favourite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece... and a rare modern classic.
The story follows a childless baker and his wife on their quest to begin a family and their interaction with a witch who has placed a curse on them as well as other loved characters from fairy tales including Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and Little Red Riding Hood during their journey. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
One of Sondheim's most popular Broadway works in history, Into the Woods is a musically sophisticated show with the opportunity to feature actors adept at dark comedy.

Our 2017 Production: The Insect Play
The senior production of the Capek Brothers' expressionist theatre play 'The Insect Play' was presented by Years 9 to 12. The performances were extremely well received by the audience, recognising the humour and wit of the insect world and the way it mirrors aspects of the human world. The costumes were a highlight of the production, utilising headpieces made by the Year 8 Visual Arts students and the cast, as well as beautiful costumes sewn by wonderful parents who devoted many hours to helping create the visual spectacle.
