Each year level will participate during one period on the day
At AISM we aim to be global citizens who are aware of other cultures and groups who may not be as fortunate as us.
Each year AISM provides sponsorship to the Asrama Desa Pukak Hostel in Sabah through the Matilda Project. The hostel is managed by the Good Shepherd Foundation and provides a home for students who live in remote parts of Sabah. It enables students to attend school regularly and access education in a long term, sustainable way.
Normally we have a Walkathon as our major fundraising event for our Matilda Project commitment. Unfortunately, that can’t happen this year. So instead we are having a Tabloid Sports Day! We are combining this fundraiser with the sports games we would normally play at our International Day celebrations (which also cannot happen in its usual form this year).
All funds raised by our International Day Tabloid Sports Fundraiser will go directly to the Asrama Desa Pukak Hostel as part of AISM’s commitment to The Matilda Project
This will be the 10th year AISM has sponsored the hostel. Most years a team of AISM students and staff visit the hostel, school and local area to build and strengthen our relationship. Over 80 people from the AISM community have visited the Matilda Project since the project’s inception.
Many of the children who stay at the hostel have to walk long distances to attend school. This is too difficult to do twice every day. Staying at the hostel means they can attend school regularly and complete a higher level of education. The hostel uses the money to purchase essential items such as rice, powdered milk, veggies, school uniform and basic school equipment. It also pays for the house mother’s wage.
Students will receive their International Day Tabloid Sports Fundraising sponsorship form next week from their homeroom teacher. So... you can start collecting sponsors during the up and coming holidays in an effort to get as many sponsors and donations as you can!
It’s a win-win situation. You meet the challenge of asking for donations and explaining to your friends and family what you are trying to do...and in turn, 30 kids gain access to education for a year.
Education is the key to freedom and a brighter future for these kids.
Thanks for your support.
