Michelle Chaplin, Head of Junior School
I wrote in my yearbook this year about the theme of “Together Apart” - a year where our community has strengthened in the face of a global pandemic. Along the same lines I take this opportunity to acknowledge the teachers in the Junior School who have gone above and beyond and attempted to move creatively through the year, striving to be the inspiring and passionate teachers our students would usually see every day - not always easy on a screen! Reinventing ourselves digitally has been a challenge - no doubt - but one we have embraced and delivered upon!
I pay tribute to all the Junior School staff for drawing us all together even though we have been apart - for working as teams - for supporting one another and for being there for our students every time we had to adjust, change, reinvent ourselves and our teaching. The team just got better and better, as did our students and our community.
When I wander through Seesaw and delve into the amazing virtual learning of our students I am totally inspired by what all of you - teachers, parents and students - have created and the evolving nature of our program. I am not at all suggesting this was easy; there were many struggles throughout the year. However, it has definitely been our passion for the students and for AISM that has enabled us to thrive - not just survive.
These last weeks we have concluded our year in a very different manner but nevertheless in the true spirit of AISM - our Community Day on Friday was a wonderful mix of farewells, thank you’s and an opportunity for a little reconnection; our campus coming alive briefly was a moment to cherish.
As we conclude the year I thank the Junior School Leadership team - Leigh Janett, Rachelle Griffin and Dianne McLean for their commitment, diligence and positivity in leading our Junior School through 2020 - they are an awesome team!
We also farewell some wonderful members of our teaching team
I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday - create some new and exciting memories to share with us in 2021!
As I complete my first full year at AISM I am bursting with pride - proud of our teachers, proud of our parents and immensely proud of our students - proud of the spirit of AISM - Together Apart.
