Ivan McLean, Head of Middle and Senior Schools
We have been rapidly progressing through curriculum and onwards towards the distribution and ultimately submission of major assessments for all students in the Middle and Senior School - from our Year 6 students right through to our Year 12 students. This will (as usual for this time of the academic year) be a challenging time for students who would normally have been sitting examinations in Years 6 to 10.
I recommend to all students a little care time. Now that we are allowed to do so under the CMCO, take a half hour walk and enjoy some sunlight (or light cloud cover). Scientific evidence exists that shows that exercise increases brain activity and helps students concentrate.
It was wonderful to see so many faces at our Middle and Senior School Online Assemblies last Friday. As with the overwhelming majority of our staff and students...I also really miss seeing the students and interacting with them on a daily basis. Our Kahoot (wonderfully prepared by Mr Unsworth) was simply that - a kahoot! The challenges that Mrs Johns and our student leaders also initiated have given us the opportunity to have a little fun together as well. We have plans to continue to conduct regular fun activities and challenges throughout the next few weeks as well.
Year 12 reports were released on the portal during the last fortnight and I thank all of the staff and Year 12 students for their obvious, plentiful and purposeful work. To complement this, it has been a pleasure conducting individual meetings with the School’s Careers Coordinator, Mr Broadbent, and each Year 12 student over the last week. At these meetings, we have been discussing current performance and future aspirations, both in relation to school work and also post schooling destinations. As our students continue to research the opportunities in front of them, I thank them for taking time out of their classes to attend these very important meetings.
Finally, I have been astounded at the incredible quality of some of the assignment submissions being produced across the school. Our students continue to show ingenuity, creativity and quality of thought in their individual and group (online) assignments - whether it be Design and Technology, French, Science and more….some excellent work is being accomplished. Well done, students!
