Liam King, Principal
Today is our final day of the 2020 academic year and it is a time for reflection and of great celebration as we close the
chapter on an extraordinary year!
It is a time to give thanks, firstly to the Senior Leadership Team at AISM who have guided and supported us all throughout the year and responded to the many challenges that have arisen. Next to our staff who have demonstrated agility and flexibility to guide the learning of our students seamlessly, whether it was during the campus based programs or the Continuity of Learning Program.
We congratulate our students for the perseverance and resilience that they have shown throughout the year to stay connected and committed to their studies. Finally to our parents for their patience, support and most importantly their partnership with us in guiding their child’s education.
2020 started as an exciting year as AISM enjoyed celebrating 20 years of offering an outstanding Australian education in Malaysia. It also gave us a great opportunity to look back so that, as a school, we could continue to move forward. In the first two weeks we outlined our theme for the year, which was ‘Our School, Our Future’. This theme was designed to allow us to look back and celebrate the history of AISM but at the same time look forward and determine the type of school we want to be in the future. What we discovered in 2020 is that AISM is a strong resilient community where staff, students and parents feel they belong, that thrives when challenges arise and achieve amazing things together.
The response from our community in 2020 has been remarkable and it was humbling to see the support we had for one another during this challenging time. I am very proud that our Community adopted a positive mindset and saw this year as an opportunity to continue to learn and grow.
Learning is a life-long pursuit and I am proud that despite the challenges of 2020 we are able to say we did our best. As a community we have much to celebrate and be proud of as the academic year draws to a close.
With the closing of the school year, our students face another transition. For some students the transition is from one year to another in the Junior, Middle or Senior Schools but for others it is the transition into the secondary phase of schooling. Our current Year 5 students are so very excited about joining the Middle and Senior School for Year 6 next year. Children by their very nature are amazingly adaptable and resilient and we know that our Year 5 students have been well prepared for this transition.
For students and teachers leaving the school this week, while we are sad to say goodbye to our friends, we wish you all the best and hope that you will carry with you fond memories of your time at AISM. We wish those families and members of staff who are leaving us our very best wishes for the future - and the School staff are looking forward to welcoming returning and new families in January 2021.
Each school year represents a leg in a long ongoing journey for both teachers and students. Both learn from each other, and will ultimately carry with them memories, knowledge and experiences that will last a lifetime. As you all commence your December/January vacation, I wish you all a very relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. For those of you travelling home, I wish you safe travels and a safe return to AISM in 2021.

The AISM Yearbook for 2020 is now available online. For those who have placed an order for printed copies, the yearbooks will be available for self-collection and will be posted out after 10 December.
