Today was a very special day at AISM as we farewelled Mr Ivan McLean after 5 ½ years of service and dedication to our community. During this time at AISM he has led with distinction and enjoyed all aspects of school life at AISM. We have seen him on stage at many assemblies speaking, presenting awards and at times even performing!! He has enjoyed school events, been involved in Co-Curricular Activities and taught his Maths and other classes when needed with passion.
He has made an enormous impact on the lives of many students for which we are very grateful. In addition to this we have benefited from the talents of the extended McLean family with Mrs McLean working as a member of the executive in the Junior School along with Aimee and Liam who were both students at AISM. Each of them has made their own significant contribution to the AISM Community in a spirit of giving and generosity.
In saying farewell today I have identified three words that I think encapsulate in part the contribution Mr McLean has made to AISM, they are - Learning, Love and Laughter.
Learning - Mr McLean is a lifelong learner who has demonstrated his passion for learning with his students. He has overseen the development of the Middle and Senior School Curriculum resulting in us achieving some of the best results in the school’s history.
Love - Mr McLean genuinely loves his students and AISM. This has been demonstrated by the connection and relationships that he has developed over his time at the school, many of which he will carry forward with him long after he has left Malaysia and AISM.
Laughter - Mr McLean has a great sense of fun and actively looks for opportunities to spread that happiness throughout the school with a quick witted comment or one of his infamous ‘Dad jokes’. AISM has certainly been a brighter place due to his presence.
His sense of enjoyment and performance is one of the things that the students have appreciated about Mr McLean so it was only fitting today that they farewelled him with our first House Music Lip Sync competition. The students did a terrific job and it was a true celebration of his time at AISM.
This Saturday 12 June there will also be an opportunity for parents to enjoy a Quiz Night to celebrate Mr McLean’s time at AISM. You can join in this event by clicking on this link at 8:00pm.
On behalf of the community we wish Mr McLean and his family well for the future and we look forward to hearing about their future endeavours.
This week, we have seen COVID-19 case numbers improve slightly in Malaysia, with the seven-day average down to approximately 6,700 compared to 7,700 last week. The graph below shows the tracking of cases in Malaysia since February 2020 and shows that case numbers are starting to show some positive signs. We hope this trend continues that will lead to a return to a campus based program early in Term 3.
Have a great weekend!
