Samantha Lindsay, Drama Teacher
As part of the Preliminary Drama course, all students must take part in improvising, playbuilding and acting. This term students were taught the foundational skills of playbuilding with a group devised performance. Students were given eight weeks to form ideas, complete research and implement acting techniques to explore a chosen issue.
Students focussed on the works of multiple theatre practitioners such as Boal, Fo and Brecht. They studied the use of grammelot, the v-effect and invisible theatre. Students were challenged to push themselves past “representational” theatre and instead focus on “presentational” theatre techniques. I am so proud of both performances. The students showed excellent knowledge of the elements of drama and production. They were able to collaborate effectively and explore interesting issues with maturity.
Trinity McCann, Daniel Dicom, Davin Jang, Rupbap Suksawat, Yann Zhao Tan, Phinix Tan, ‘The End of the World’.
Angelina Emby, Gaia Fallander, Irene Park, Ariana Eimer and Joseph Dean, ‘The Land Before Time’.
This Term the Year 12 Drama students have been working hard on completing their final practical component of the HSC course. In HSC Drama, all students have to complete an Individual Project. Five of the Drama students this year chose performance, one wrote an original script and another student designed a set for the play Antigone using computer-aided design. I am so proud of all of the students. They put in tremendous hard work and showed responsibility and maturity throughout the entire year. Unfortunately, the markers from Australia were not able to be here in person; however, each student was able to perform in the Black Box Theatre virtually for the first time ever!
