Year 3: A Review of Term 1
After an amazing first term, Year 3 is back and as excited as ever for the new term ahead. In Term 1, we learned an enormous amount and have much to be proud of. We would like to share with you some of our achievements.
Filming Our Movie: ‘Year 3 Takeover the School’
You may have heard, since it was the talk of the town, that Year 3 made a movie. It was called, ‘Year 3 Takeover the School.’ As the name suggests, the students, being empowered by their rigorous education at AISM, made the decision that adults were no longer required at the school. Was this coup d'état a lasting success? Watch the movie here to find out.
The idea to make a movie came from the students. We brainstormed possible performance ideas and the vote to do a play/make a movie was the clear winner. The students, or actors, put a great amount of effort into learning their lines, and, as you will see, it was an Oscar winning performance from the cast.
‘Traditional Inhabitants of the Land’
In our Term 1 Inquiry, ‘Traditional Inhabitants of the Land,’ we investigated traditional Aboriginal Culture. We were lucky to get the chance to talk to Bianca Williams, an Aboriginal woman from the Barkindji tribe of the Darling River basin in Far West New South Wales, Australia. Bianca answered all of our questions relating to Australian Aboriginal culture and what we learned was astonishing.

In collaborative teams, students researched a traditional Aboriginal artefact, and then made the artefact out of a variety of materials. As seen in the pictures, these artefacts are on show in a display outside our classroom and they look fantastic. The display includes a Gunyah (hut), Inigenous clothing and different tools and instruments.

Year 3 Authors
Another exciting achievement from Year 3 in Term 1 was the books written by our amazing authors. The emphasis on learning for the term was the planning process to write narratives using each step in the ‘7 Steps to Writing Success’ program. While you cannot always judge a book by its cover, these stories certainly do live up to their spectacular covers.
