Michael Lewthwaite, Head of Mathematics
At the end of this semester, 16 of our Year 9 students have now completed Stage 5 Mathematics. ie. they have finished the Year 10 syllabus! At the recent school examinations, these students sat both Year 9 and 10 examinations and achieved some outstanding results.
The class has worked diligently and enthusiastically, with the occasional complaint about workload, over the past two years to complete the entire Years 8-10 curriculum. Many of these students will commence the Year 11 Mathematics Advanced course in 2020.
It was not an easy task but these students have made amazing progress in mathematics and responded to the daily challenges with a smile (mostly). To listen to these students discussing mathematics, showing their interest, enthusiasm and most significantly, their deep level of mathematical understanding has made me incredibly proud.
