Enrichment, extension and support
The Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) provides additional services to students who need learning enrichment. We have a case management approach to better coordinate services for students with exceptional needs. Our enrichment includes differentiated learning in the classroom, learning support, enrichment extension, and supporting students who have English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Differentiation in the classroom – extension and support
In addition to this we look at catering for each individual student's needs by providing them with extension opportunities both in and out of the classroom. At AISM, we provide a wide range of programmes and competitions to complement your child's learning.
Learning enhancement and support
We have a dedicated Learning Support teacher, a specialist who supports class teachers to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our students. Our Student Support Team, which includes our Learning Teacher, EAL Teacher, School Counsellor, Head of School and Stage Leaders, assess student's individual needs and work collaboratively with the teachers to ensure the learning success of these students.
This could involve an individual education programme, withdrawal from class for individual or small group support, or intervention from a specialist, such as our School Counsellor.

English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes
For our students who need help with improving their English proficiency, we provide EAL support.
Our EAL teacher is a qualified secondary teacher who is also trained in teaching English to children of non English speaking backgrounds. Lessons are designed to help children take part in all aspects of school life by improving:
- Speaking skills - so they can take part in group discussions in class and converse in English with their schoolmates daily.
- Listening skills – so they understand the teacher and their fellow students.
- Writing – this includes English grammar and using this in a functional way so they can apply their skills in class activities.
Note that while a child is receiving EAL support, an additional fee is payable.
