Mrs Kitching, Drama and English Teacher
After three terms of hard work, the 41 students in the Middle and Senior School Production performed 'Hairspray Junior' to an enthralled audience over two nights this week. The play, set in Baltimore in 1962, is about a young girl called Tracy Turnblad who dreams of dancing on the 'Corny Collins Show'. She learns some groovy new moves from Seaweed Stubbs that help her achieve her ambition, and in doing so realises that she has the ability to confront the racist attitudes of people in the town at the same time. Our very talented students were assisted by some wonderful staff and parents who gave up so much of their own time. In particular, Mrs Pat Goonting and Mrs Callie Millett made our production look spectacular with their set and costume design, and Mrs Christina Skov, Miss Andrea Zibell and Mrs Eryn Grady choreographed and taught vocals to bring the music of the sixties alive. A huge CONGRATULATIONS and thank you to all the AMAZING students in the cast and crew. You are all stars.
I am immensely proud of all the work the students and staff have put into the production of Hairspray. They worked well as a team to produce a very high standard of performance in this energetic musical. I would like to thank everyone involved from the parents who came in and made costumes, did makeup and Hair, sourced materials and essentials for props and costumes etc. To the staff who gave up their weekends and evenings to help in all aspects of the show. The students worked tirelessly to produce such a high standard of performance. I am sure all that witnessed this amazing event were as proud as me!
