Australian International School Malaysia Welcomes New Principal
Timothy Waley is excited to come on board as Australian International School Malaysia (AISM)’s new principal, commencing 2018. Growing steadily over the years since its inception in 2000, the school caters for children from age 3 (Pre-school) to age 18 (Pre-University). The school houses its primary and secondary schools on one campus and has more than 650 students represented by over 40 different nationalities.
Tim hails from Melbourne, Australia, and has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Charles Sturt University, New South Wales, with over 30 years experience as a school leader in Australia and Asia.
Tim held Principal positions in Australia for almost 14 years, and subsequently in Asia; namely in Raffles International School, Dubai and Uptown School Mirdif. During his tenure at Uptown he oversaw the development of the school to a new site along with significant population growth and numerous educational accreditations. Most recently Tim was Principal of Ecole Mondiale World School in Mumbai, India.
Tim’s management style is consultative and he values the expertise and experience of the leadership group with which he surrounds himself. He believes strongly that teaching is about facilitating learning, and a teacher’s role is to effectively engage young people and allow them the opportunity to take charge of their learning through an energetic and differentiated classroom environment. Tim is focused on an environment that is inclusive, where professional relationships are strong and supportive and where the core goal is always the welfare and development of the students.
At AISM, Tim will continue to drive the school’s commitment to provide a stimulating educational environment for its students, centred on Visible Learningᵀᴹ (Professor John Hattie). This is in line with their milestone achievement in October 2017 of being accredited as the first certified Visible Learning School in the world.
