School Counsellor


 With the school year underway and parents and students adjusting to the new routine, I thought it was timely that we look at the benefits of establishing a good study routine early on for our students, so that there is a strong foundation on which to build as the year progresses and the work demands increase. Establishing such a routine is also a way of minimising one’s stress levels and maximising one’s learning potential and opportunities. This applies to students across all the year levels in the Middle and Senior School.

In this edition of the newsletter,  I have included an article from the pen of Andrew Fuller, a Melbourne-based clinical psychologist and author who specialises in working with adolescents, entitled “How To Increase Your Marks”. He offers some very practical ideas to students on helping them develop a range of smart study skills.

Over the course of the year, I will be running a number of parent information sessions on a range of topics relating to raising teenagers. Here is the list of sessions and dates planned for the first semester:

Term 1

      Session No.1: Transitioning - specifically for our new parents to the school
      Day and Date: Wednesday, 24 February

      Session No.2: Mental Health and Young People - providing information on the most common mental issues which may occur in
      adolescence; signs and symptoms; treatment options; support at school

      Sessions No.3 & 4: Parenting your Middle Schooler - specifically for our Grade 6 parents. ( 2 sessions )
