Grant Smith, Music Teacher

Our Music students took to the stage in Week 9 this term to perform their assessment pieces to the MSS School in a lunchtime concert. The learning intention was designed for students to be able to gain a deeper understanding in the process of learning a song for a performance (outcome) within a group while applying new musical skills developed during the term that were characteristic of contemporary music styles. Thank you to all the students and staff who were a very supportive and respectful audience. To watch our student performances please click on the screenshot link to our Youtube Page.

Wayang Kulit
Katherine Kitching, Drama Teacher

Years 9 and 10 Drama students are beginning their studies of Theatres in Asia with a look at Wayang Kulit, a traditional form of shadow puppetry from Indonesia and Malaysia. They have workshopped a story from the Ramayana, adding contemporary references and utilising skills in vocal expression, puppetry and music. Over the next term they will study other traditional forms of theatre from different Asian cultures, using them to develop an Asian-inspired self devised performance which will be presented at the Senior Drama and Music Showcase.

In Week 2 of Term 2 we begin our Wednesday Music Open Mic Lunchtimes at the Cabarita Cafe. This is for all students/staff to have fun and sing a song or two during every Wednesday lunchtime. To sign up please see Mr Smith before each Wednesday and the stage is yours! Students can sing - play acoustic guitar or ukulele. Enjoy!
